Julia was widely known for her unwavering commitment to philanthropy and her impactful contributions to a wide range of UK charitable causes. In 2014 she married Hans Rausing. They were married for 10 years before her death in 2024.

She was instrumental in building the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust into one of the largest philanthropic funds in the country, donating £50 million annually to causes across Health, Welfare, and the Arts, primarily within the UK. In 2023 giving through the Trust reached a record £71 million for the year.

Julia took a keen interest in all the Trust’s giving, no matter how large or small the grant. In recent years, she steered the Trust toward a focus on homelessness, youth initiatives, and the arts as well as providing financial support for smaller charities impacted by the covid pandemic and cost of living crisis.

Born in Cheshire, Julia divided her time between West London and Gloucestershire. She was very active in supporting local charities in all three localities.

By the time of her passing, the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, building on a legacy of earlier philanthropy, had given over £400m to charitable causes, mostly within the UK.

The Julia Rausing Trust was established by Hans Rausing in order to make grants in Julia’s name, supporting causes she was particularly passionate about.
