£2m to help charity in provision of financial support for unpaid carers
The Carers Trust is a charity that supports unpaid carers. The £2 million grant from the Julia Rausing Trust will be made towards the charity’s flagship Carers Fund Programme. The programme allows unpaid carers to apply for grants towards essential household items, respite breaks, transport and training. The grants are currently worth up to £300 but the Julia Rausing Trust’s donation will allow those facing extreme financial hardship to apply for up to £1,000.
Carers Trust CEO, Kirsty McHugh, said:
“We’re incredibly grateful for this generous donation in memory of the inspirational Julia Rausing. Julia was a dedicated supporter of Carers Trust’s work with young carers in schools and we’re delighted that backing will now continue through our Carers Fund Programme. These grants can be a lifeline for carers, around two-thirds of whom have had to cut back on paid work or give up their jobs completely because of their growing caring responsibilities. This donation will allow us to reach more carers than ever, while increasing the financial support we can offer to those in most desperate need of help.”
