£1 million towards restoration of the organ.
Gloucester Cathedral has stood at the heart of the county for almost 1,000 years, inspiring a sense of wonder from visitors and providing an enduring, reassuring presence in the lives of local people. The grant will help restore the last remaining, intact 17th century organ case in the country, creating a sustainable future for the Cathedral’s musical activities. Julia devoted an important part of her philanthropy to the county, wishing to give back to the community within which she resided, making this a fitting donation in her memory.
The Very Reverend Andrew Zihni, Dean of Gloucester said:
“We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation in memory of Julia Rausing, whose legacy will echo through the magnificent sound of the new Cathedral organ. Music has long been a central part of Gloucester Cathedral’s mission and the restored organ will bring joy to our communities as we expand our musical outreach.
This gift will be a strong reminder for us all of Julia’s passion and generosity. She will be fondly remembered as a significant philanthropic leader, whose legacy will be cherished for generations to come.”
