The Foodbank Fund
Julia and Hans Rausing focused much of their philanthropy on charities that help those most in need within the UK. In the Autumn of 2022, they were acutely aware that rapidly rising prices were building towards a crisis over the winter, as people struggled to afford the costs of heating and food.
With food being the chosen focus, their response was to launch a £10m cost of living crisis grant programme. The majority of funding was directed to foodbanks, via a large grant to The Trussell Trust and an open application programme: The Foodbank Fund. Additional grants were given to charities, both large and small, that were providing access to food in a variety of ways. In total, 366 direct grants were given via the programme.
