Julia and Hans Rausing make £1.3 million donation to charities supporting those in need this Christmas
Julia and Hans Rausing are giving £1.3 million to charities in the UK this Christmas, focusing on providing food and shelter to those most in need over the festive period.
This Christmas, Julia and Hans Rausing are supporting 25 charities, and have again supported the Big Give’s annual Christmas Challenge 2021, the largest match funding charity campaign of its kind in the UK, which this year raised nearly £25 million.
Recipients of the gifts include homelessness charity Glass Door, who are receiving £200,000, Change Please, supporting their Driving for Change campaign to provide healthcare for homeless people, and The Felix Project, who train homeless people for careers in hospitality. £325,000 has been donated to Barnardo’s Christmas Appeal, which is providing food, bedding and clothes to children over the festive period.
Further support has been provided to several smaller charities who operate in Julia and Hans’ local areas of Gloucestershire and Kensington and Chelsea.
Julia and Hans Rausing commented: “This Christmas will once again be one of the most difficult in recent years, especially for the most vulnerable in society. As the effects of the pandemic have continued to impact the charitable sector it is important that those who can, continue to give generously to charities who are providing vital support to those in need over the winter period.”
This year, Julia and Hans Rausing have donated over £44 million to organisations and charities, as the sector has been devastated by reduced funding and increased demand for their services as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the success of the Charity Survival Fund in 2020, the Youth Centre Recovery Fund was launched earlier this year, providing £8 million to youth centres and organisations across England. The funding has been used to ensure youth centres are able to continue to provide much needed services to young people, whose lives were put on hold during the pandemic at a critical time for their development.
