Macmillan Emergency Grants Appeal to receive £1 million from Julia and Hans Rausing
Julia and Hans Rausing have donated £1 million to Macmillan Cancer Support and their Emergency Grant Appeal.
The donation will fund nearly 3,000 means tested payments of £350 to the most financially vulnerable patients to meet their immediate needs so that they are better able to focus on their cancer treatment and recovery.
Macmillan’s research shows that around 80% of people who are diagnosed with cancer see their finances impacted by an average of £891 a month, and that money is the biggest worry for most cancer patients, despite the medical implications of the disease.
As a result of the cost-of-living crisis, by September Macmillan had already exceeded the number of grants given out throughout the entirety of 2021, and demand is expected to increase by 45% year on year.
Julia and Hans Rausing have previously supported the work of Macmillan, as lead donor of the Covid response fund, donating £250,000 to an appeal which raised over £2 million to provide thousands of people with emergency support services during the pandemic.
Julia and Hans Rausing said: “Having supported the Macmillan Covid response fund, we know that emergency grants make a real difference and enable people who are most in need to focus on their treatment and recovery from cancer.”
“Macmillan have always been there for cancer patients at one of the most difficult times of their lives, and we hope as many people as possible support their timely emergency appeal.”
