St James’s, Piccadilly

A memorial grant has been given toward renewing the organ which has not been in working order and has not been in a playable condition since the 1960s.

£1.7 million towards The Wren Project.

St James’s Church, Piccadilly in the centre of London was designed and built by Sir Christopher Wren and opened in 1684. The Wren Project seeks to restore the building, courtyard and gardens. A memorial grant has been given toward renewing the organ – originally given to St James’s by Queen Mary in 1691 – which has not been in working order and has not been in a playable condition since the 1960s. The grant will also fund a 10 year Organist and Sub-Organist scholarship programme.
